Rafael Leao has been one of the great protagonists of the season for Milan, which is one point away from celebrating its first scudetto since 2011. The Portuguese arrived in 2019 for €24m from Lille, but his impressive performance this year has exploded, and with it, his market value. ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’, in fact, has dedicated its front page to him today, stating that the striker is now worth 100 million euros.
The coach Stefano Pioli, at the beginning of the season, stated that Leao “was different, he was training with a different mind”. The numbers confirmed that he was right: the striker has doubled his usual figures. Sum, in all competitions, 14 goals and nine assists. According to Olocip data, he is the best Rossoneri of the season with a value of 12.26, ahead of Theo Hernandez (9.47) and Maignan (9.23).
His plays are making the difference in recent days, the most important moment. It happened in Verona, with two assists for Tonali, and against Fiorentina and Atalanta, breaking two blocked matches.
Para the ‘Gazzetta’, PSG has already tried to get his services, putting some 70 million euros on the table. Milan does not consider that offer enough (it must be remembered that Lille will keep 15% of its eventual sale), and, in addition, it intends to shield him. The rossoneri began contacts with Jorge Mendes to renew his contract, which expires in 2024. He will have to improve his salary a lot, which is around 1.5 million net. The first proposal reached 4.5, but Leao’s performance makes it possible for that figure to continue rising.
