The Premier studies postponing Tottenham-Arsenal

The Premier League is considering postponing Sunday’s Tottenham-Arsenal due to the high number of casualties in the ‘gunners’ ranks.

Mikel Arteta has the absences of Mohamed Elneny, Nicolas Pepé, Thomas Partey and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, all of them in the African Cup, and Emile Smith Rowe, Sead Kolasinac and Takehiro Tomiyasu due to injury.

In addition, Cédric Soares and Bukayo Saka ended up ‘touched’ after Thursday’s goalless draw at Anfield in the League Cup semi-final (second leg), Martin Odegaard contracted COVID-19 and will not be available on Sunday and Granit Xhaka he was expelled, so he will not be able to play against Tottenham.

Arsenal have called for the match to be called off due to a lack of players, although it is unclear if they can adhere to COVID rules, with only Odegaard infected. According to the protocol of the Premier, the teams must have a minimum of thirteen players and a goalkeeper to be able to play the matches.

In total twenty matches have been postponed since the start of December due to outbreaks caused by the omicron variant of the coronavirus in the UK. The last of them has been Burnley-Leicester City, which was scheduled for this Saturday.
