The Premier League released a statement on Wednesday in which it stated that, despite the increase in positives from coronavirus, it does not intend to make a temporary break in the competition as claimed by some sectors.
The Premier's statement indicates that said body “has not considered pausing the season and does not plan to do so.” And he adds that “the League continues to rely on its COVID-19 protocols to allow games to be played as scheduled.”
This Wednesday the Tottenham-Fulham game had to be postponed due to the positives in the team led by Scott Parker. The same happened on Monday with the Everton-Manchester City meeting due to the positives within the ‘citizen’ club.
The Premier announced on Tuesday a record number of 18 positives in the coronavirus tests carried out in the 20 Premier clubs during the week of December 21 to 27 to players, coaches and employees.
This same Wednesday the United Kingdom Government decided that there should be no public in any Premier stadium, not even in the two in Liverpool, Anfield and Goodison Park, the only ones that could accommodate spectators (2,000 fans in each match) due to the situation of the pandemic.
