The positive effect of VAR in football

The positive effect of VAR in football

Even though football has been around for many years, it changes just like everything else. Apart from the different small differences, one of the things that made a huge impact on the game recently was the introduction of the Video Assistant Referee or also known as VAR.

As expected, VAR basically divided the football community in two. The first group was really looking forward to the changes because many sports have had this feature for years now, whereas the rest think that it was unnecessary because it makes things more complicated.

Even though both parties have their arguments, you can’t deny the fact that the overall effect of VAR is positive. Apart from the purely subjective decisions, such as yellow and red cards, VAR helps the referees a lot with pretty much everything else. Having said that, here are some of the positive things about it.

It helps with offsides

The first thing that VAR is really good for is spotting offsides. Every football fan out there has had moments where he was furious at the referee about a situation where there was a clear offside.

Unlike some of the entirely subjective decisions that the referee can make, when it comes down to offsides, it is either there or not. That’s why VAR is so good here because it can clearly tell you whether the player was in such a position or not.

Needless to say, the fact that every offside is now watched closely also has an effect on the people who are into betting. In fact, you can click here for more information if you want to know what is the impact on this industry.

You can be 100% sure when a goal is scored

The second positive the VAR brings to every football match is the fact that it can tell you whenever a goal is scored. Normally, this won’t be an issue because everyone can see whenever a certain team scores a goal.

However, there are many clutch situations where the ball barely crosses the line. Until VAR was introduced in football (which happened in 2018), it was up to the referee to decide whenever there was a goal or not. Needless to say, the ref was not always right, which led to many goals that shouldn’t exist.

Now, thanks to this fantastic technology, the subjective factor is not there anymore because you can clearly see if the ball passes the goal line or not.

VAR makes the job of the referee easier

Let’s face it, being a referee is not the easiest thing in the world. Although many people consider this to be their dream job, one wrong decision in a major football match can have serious consequences.

Luckily, thanks to VAR, these people now have a lot less pressure on their shoulders. Whenever there is a clutch moment, the ref can always go and check what happened and make the right decision. Sure, this takes some time and might be a bit annoying, but it’s well worth it.
