The Portuguese winger João Cancelo also arrives on loan to Barça

MADRID, 1 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Portuguese footballer João Cancelo, Manchester City winger, has become a new FC Barcelona player this Friday until June 30, 2024, after the culé entity has reached a loan agreement with the ‘citizens’.

This has been confirmed by both clubs on their respective websites. “There is no purchase option. The club publicly expresses its gratitude to the player for the financial effort made and his desire to wear the Barça shirt,” Barça said in its press release.

“The list of clubs that have worn his shirt is spectacular. Throughout his career he has gone through five entities that have the Champions League to their credit. A native of the town of Barreiro, he was quickly recruited by Benfica in Lisbon, close to home, and where they won a League, a Cup, a League Cup and a Super Cup”, highlighted the culé statement.

“Apart from the titles, Valencia signed him aware of his potential, and in his first three seasons in the Spanish League he showed that they had not been wrong. Then he played two seasons in Italian football,” Barça recalled in their note.

“The first, at Inter Milan, and the second, at Juventus, where he exploded even more, before making the leap to Manchester City in the summer of 2019. In England he has spent three and a half seasons, because even if he arrives to Barcelona coming from the ‘citizen’ team, he played the last half-year on loan at Bayern”, he said about Cancelo’s stay in Munich.

“Over the years he has also acquired the knowledge of being a more than skilled resource to play on the left wing, if necessary. Also, especially in recent years at Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola he was a key player starting from the side but playing a lot in interior positions, like one more midfielder”, pointed out the blaugrana entity.

“Thus then, Barça has signed a right-back, yes, but with much more experience”, sentenced the press release. It was minutes after the signing of the also Portuguese João Félix was announced, from Atlético de Madrid and also on loan for one year.
