The Polish tennis player Kamil Majchrzak has been suspended for 13 months, for testing positive in four anti-doping controls last year, after accepting a sanction within the framework of the Tennis Anti-Doping Program (TADP), the International Agency for Tennis Integrity confirmed this Friday. Tennis (ITIA).
Majchrzak, currently ranked 218 in the ATP ranking and who in February 2022 achieved the best position of his career -75-, was subjected to anti-doping tests by ITIA at the Sofia tournaments, in September 2022; from Tokyo, in October 2022; and from Seoul, also in October 2022; as well as a test by the Polish Anti-Doping Agency (POLADA) in November 2022.
According to the ITIA, the analysis of the samples confirmed the presence of the prohibited substance SARM S-22, metabolites of LGD-4033 and the agonist PPARd, all of them unspecified substances that appear on the list of prohibited substances of the World Anti-Doping Agency ( AMA) of 2022. Adverse analytical results for unspecified substances carry a mandatory provisional suspension, and Majchrzak was provisionally suspended on November 30, 2022.
The player admitted the anti-doping rule violations, although he declared that he had not knowingly ingested the prohibited substances, but that they had entered his body through a contaminated supplement, an isotonic drink, providing as evidence the purchase receipts and samples of the supplement from the same batch for analysis.
Analyzes of the drink confirmed the presence of the same prohibited substances found in Majchrzak’s positive tests. Thus, the ITIA accepted that Majchrzak had not ingested the substances intentionally, but affirmed that the Pole was still responsible, since he knows the risks of contamination of the supplements.
Now, the ITIA confirmed that Majchrzak accepted a 13-month sanction, a time that will be deducted from the beginning of his provisional suspension -November 30, 2022- and, therefore, will allow him to play again on December 30, 2023 .
