The Pacers come back to beat the Suns and ruin Devin Booker’s 62-point night.

The Indiana Pacers were able to handle Devin Booker’s earlier scoring run on Friday night. Then they came back late and shocked the Phoenix Suns.

With 3.4 seconds left, Obi Toppin broke the tie with a putback. The win, 133–131, capped a 17-point comeback and ruined Booker’s 62-point masterpiece.

Booker was asked about Toppin, who had 23 points and 11 rebounds. “Great player,” Toppin said.

“But in the fourth quarter, we chose to hit him and send a different defender to take the ball away from him. We then had to escape by scrambling.” They didn’t like it. I believe it was their worst quarter.

The change made a big difference because the Suns scored just 17 points over the last 12 minutes after scoring 40, 40, and 34 points in the previous three quarters.

However, Booker scored 29 points in the first quarter, which was a new record for him and Phoenix. He still had an opportunity for a win at the end of the game.

But he slid on the inside pass or wasn’t close enough for a hot 3-point shot. The Suns have won seven games in a row.

He scored 50 points or more for the seventh time in his career and the second time this season. His best score was 70, which he got at Boston in March 2017. It had 52 in New Orleans on January 19. It wasn’t enough.

It’s the first time since 1977–78 that more than one player scored 60 points in a loss in the same season. Erik Karl-Anthony Towns of Minnesota scored 62 points in a loss on Monday.

Booker also became the third player in NBA history (after the likes of Wilt Chamberlain (11) and Michael Jordan (2)) to have multiple 60-point games in a loss.

It’s been since 1977–78 that more than one player scored 60 points within a loss. Erik Karl-Anthony Towns of Minnesota scored 62 points in a loss on Monday.

The only other pair to have the same thing happen to them is George Gervin (63) and David Thompson (73).

The point guard said, “Those are the shots I’ve been taking all season.” “There are some things we need to work on, especially on defense.”

The Suns tied the team record for most games with 40-point scorers in a row with five. Durant scored 20 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and passed the ball six times.

Indiana won its second game in a row, this time against Philadelphia and Phoenix. Pascal Siakam scored 31 points, and the team did it without All-Star guard Tyrese Haliburton, who was hurt in both games.

But the NBA’s highest-scoring squad came back from being down 54–37 in the second quarter to get within 80–70 at halftime. They then slowly chipped away at the lead throughout the second half.

With 1:59 left, Andrew Nembhard made a short step-back floater to cut the lead to 129–127. The game was tied when Nembhard scored two baskets in a row. He scored 22 points and set up six others.

Then Durant missed a three-pointer, and the Pacers missed two shots on their last possession.

Toppin caught the rebound and scored the basket, which might have been the simplest play in a game that was rough, fast-paced, and hard for both teams to defend.

Toppin said, “We needed points, so our goal was just to become involved and crash the boards.” “I saw Benedict (Mathurin) attempt to finish someone off, and then Pascal was right there, so I grabbed the soccer ball and put it in.”

In the third quarter, Suns guard Bradley Beal left the game because he got a foul on Sixers center Myles Turner.

Beal got hit in the nose and had to be helped to the changing area right away. He came back early in the fourth quarter, but his mouth was full of cotton.
