The origins of Jenni Hermoso: from her eternal Carabanchel to a world champion star

Jenni Beautiful and soccer or soccer and Jenni Hermoso. For the number ten of the national team, her life has been permanently linked to this sport. When the norm was to ask for a doll for your birthday, Jenni was already different: “she did not separate from the ball,” admits her father while he remembers that when he took her to see a football game, she was mesmerized. Now Jenni is at the center of a controversy that has put Luis Rubiales on the ropes for the incomprehensible kiss he gave the player in the World Cup final. An out of place gesture for which they have asked for his resignation as president of the Spanish Football Federation.

At school, like many of the forerunners of women’s soccer, she had to deal with the traditional “soccer is not a girls’ sport.” A few years later, Jenni still hasn’t let go of the ball. Those who did not let her play in the schoolyard are already cheering her name while she is proclaimed, along with the rest of her teammates, World Champion.

In front of 20,000 fans and without separating from her irreplaceable beginnings, the current forward of the Mexican team proclaims with the same pride with which she lifts the World Cup: “I feel super proud that all of Spain is here, but I have to say long live Madrid and the people of Madrid, we are the best”. Some statements that reveal her eternal gratitude to Carabanchel: the Madrid neighborhood where she saw him grow.

The eagerness for the city of Madrid is not the only thing that he proclaims without censorship. On several occasions, she along with her partner Alexia Putellas, Jenni has attended Pride parties in the capital while supporting the LGTBI community in one of its countless floats. “Visibility, pride and resilience,” she wrote in a post she posted on Instagram last year.

his trajectory

Soccer came into Jenni’s life as a legacy from her maternal grandfather Antonio Fuerteswho passed away in 2019. Antonio was a goalkeeper at Atleti when the club still called itself “Atlético Aviación”, a consequence of the post-war period.

He knew how to see that Jenni’s future was indisputably linked to soccer. For this reason, with the joy of someone who brings her granddaughter to the school gates, Antonio brought the future world champion closer to a mixed team from Comillas. That’s where it all started.

Later, he went to Atlético de Madrid. In 2012, he already debuted in the National Team. He also played for Barça, as well as for PSG. Now, the number 10 of the national team consolidates her career in the Women’s MX League.
