If you watch the film of the Chiefs’ offensive tackles, San Francisco defensive end Nick Bosa says that you can see a lot of penalties.

When asked what he thought of Donovan Smith as well as Jawaan Taylor, Chiefs offensive tackles, Bosa said that the penalties stood out.

Bosa said, “They hold a lot.” In 2023, Taylor had the most penalties in the NFL with 20, eight of which were for holding flags. It was called on Smith five times, and four of them were holding.

The 49ers’ owner, Jed York, is still upset about what he thought to be an uncalled holding penalty against Bosa by the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV. In Super Bowl LVIII, the 49ers will be hoping that holding will be called.

Bosa was partly right when he said that. Taylor and two other players tied for second place in the NFL with six holding penalties. Only Rashawn Slater with the Los Angeles Chargers had more.

Guard Trey Smith of the Chiefs got five holding penalties all season, as well as center Creed Humphrey got four more. Taylor had the most penalties in the NFL with 17. He had eight false starts.

In a news conference on Thursday, Nick Bosa of the San Francisco 49ers was asked what stood out to him about Jawaan Taylor or Donovan Smith of the Kansas City Chiefs.

The comments should be heard in Kansas City when the Chiefs and 49ers get ready for the Super Bowl next Sunday.

On the one hand, Smith is known for talking trash, so he probably won’t let Bosa’s remarks go without responding. Bosa is right about something else.

This season, Taylor has been one of the most-watched linemen in football. His tendency to draw penalty flags has made headlines more than once. This is also supported by the numbers.

During the regular season, Taylor was called for and accepted 19 penalties, more than any other player in the NFL. He was also given three penalties that his opponents chose not to take.

Seven of those penalties had been for holding, and this was tied for the most in football among offensive linemen.

He also had nine false starts, which was the most in the league. Smith, meanwhile, got five holds penalties, two more than his teammate who led the league in penalties.

Bosa, on the other hand, is one of the most dangerous pass rushers in the NFL. He has been to four Pro Bowls and is currently the Defensive Player for the Year.

Along with trying to scare Patrick Mahomes, he will try to get some penalties when he is lined on either side of the line. When Bosa talks about the Chiefs and holding the same sentence, it brings up some history.

The star defensive end for the 49ers has started his campaign to have the holding calls ruled in his favor in the Super Bowl 2024.

He has done this by insulting Donovan Smith or Jawaan Taylor, two offensive tackles for the Chiefs.

San Francisco thought Kansas City got away with a clear hold on Bosa on a few of the most important plays in Super Bowl 2020 when the Chiefs came back to beat the 49ers.

With a little more than seven minutes left, the Chiefs were down 20–10 and Patrick Mahomes found Tyreek Hill for 44 yards upon third-and-15 from their 35-yard line.

The Chiefs scored a touchdown on that play, and they came back from being down 10 points to win 31–20, giving Mahomes a rookie championship.

Bosa had two sacks against the Lions during the NFC Championship game. In the 49ers’ first two playoff games, he has hit the quarterback nine times.

In their first three playoff games, the Chiefs have only given up two sacks. Both of those came in last Sunday’s 17-10 win over the Ravens during the AFC Championship game.
