The Oakland Athletics are concentrating on the new Daybreak stadium, according to an LHM official.

Oakland Athletics’s temporary relocation to Utah is a possibility. However, Salt Lake City does not fall within the intended scope.

According to Big League Utah stakeholders, the team will more likely play its home matches in the southwestern corner of the valley.

Ahead of relocating from Oakland until the 2028 opening of its new stadium in Las Vegas, A’s executives met with Larry H. Miller Company leaders within Utah on Thursday, during which they toured the construction site at their new baseball stadium in Daybreak. The purpose of the meeting was to identify a housing solution until then.

“On Thursday, we hosted team representatives and demonstrated that we can accommodate their ballpark requirements,” said Steve Starks, CEO of Larry H. Miller Company, in a statement.

“The state and our organization are thrilled to have the Athletics as our guests until the completion of their new stadium within Las Vegas.”

LHM is constructing a new ballpark to accommodate the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees in the Daybreak neighborhood of South Jordan.

Nevertheless, according to Starks, the 2025-slated ballpark may initially serve as the location for the major-league baseball club.

The focal point of the discussions that took place between Athletics and LHM was the relocation of the team to Utah for every 81 home games spanning the 2025–2027 seasons.

Lease terms for the Oakland Athletics expire at the conclusion of their 2024 season. However, until 2028, their new 1.5 billion-dollar ballpark at the current location at the Tropicana Hotel will not be operational.

Reportedly, team representatives are evaluating several potential options, such as renewing the lease for the Coliseum, the Greater Nevada Field of the Reno Aces, the Las Vegas Ballpark of the Triple-A Aviators, and the Oracle Park of the Giants.

Sacramento may stand as Utah’s most formidable adversary. On Thursday, A’s representatives also visited Sutter Health Park in that city.

However, the deadline to determine a home field in 2025 is rapidly approaching, as MLB requires this information prior to July 2025, when they will publish the schedule of the 2025 season.

Starks stated that if the A’s decided to play at Daybreak, the Salt Lake Bees would most likely continue to do so at Smith’s Ballpark in Salt Lake City.

“Our one-of-a-kind, two-stadium solution would guarantee baseball’s continued presence in the Salt Lake market for the duration of the Salt Lake Bees’ tenure at Smith’s Ballpark,” he explained.

In an interview provided by Deseret News, Larry H. Miller Company CEO Steve Starks confidently stated that they can meet the ballpark needs.

The company confirmed on Friday that it has been in “regular contact” with the Arizona A’s and hosted them on Thursday, demonstrating “we can meet their ballpark needs.”

“The state and our organization are thrilled and prepared to welcome the Athletics until the completion of their new stadium in Las Vegas.”

“This new ballpark has been the center of the A’s interest and will serve their needs,” he continued.

Downtown Daybreak, South Jordan, will witness the opening of a second ballpark in 2025, in addition to Smith’s Ballpark.

This facility will serve as the focal point of a recreational and cultural district and offer first-rate amenities for both players and fans.

Starks stated that the baseballpark will feature “awe-inspiring vistas of the field and the Wasatch Mountains,” “convenient access from Mountain View Corridor as well as TRAX, and be situated in the most rapidly developing region of Salt Lake County.”

Our distinctive two-stadium solution would guarantee the continuation of baseball in the Salt Lake market in the event that the Salt Lake Bees extend their stay at Smith’s Ballpark for further seasons.

A spokesperson of the Salt Lake City Mayor’s Office, Andrew Wittenberg, confirmed the municipality’s desire to provide temporary hosting for the Oakland A’s during their period of transition.

“Salt Lake City is a major league city, according to Mayor (Erin) Mendenhall, who also believes that Smith’s Ballpark would be an excellent temporary host for the A’s.” Even if only temporarily, Major League Baseball could serve as a catalyst for the neighborhood.
