The number one, Swiatek, does not stop: 25 consecutive wins

Iga Swiatek’s run since her last loss in 2022, in the Dubai round of 16 against Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia, is simply impressive. The Polish woman, number one in the world, won this Thursday at the WTA 1,000 in Rome, a tournament in which she defends her title, his 25th consecutive win. The victim this time was Victoria Azarenka, who dreamed of stopping Iga’s streak when he opened the first set with a hopeful 3-0. But his rival, unattainable to discouragement, came back to win by 6-4 and 6-1 in 1h55.

It mattered little to the 2020 Roland Garros champion committing 39 unforced errors, because at the same time she added 34 winners that broke Vika’s resistance. In his current streak, Swiatek has only lost five sets. On Friday (around 1:00 p.m., Teledeporte) they will face the reborn Bianca Andreescu, who after eliminating Raducanu (due to the withdrawal of the British) and Párrizas, was also able to defeat Croatian Petra Martic (double 6-4).

Another of the great favorites, Aryna Sabalenka, seems to have rediscovered his game. The Belarusian easily dispatched the Mutua Madrid Open finalist, the American Jessica Pegula (6-1 and 6-4), with 32 winners and 11 errors, will be measured (11:00, TDP) with the North American Amanda Anisimova, who beat her compatriot Danielle Collins, a finalist in the Australian Open, (double 6-2 in 59 minutes).

Jabeur and Sakkari, in quarters

The recent winner of the Mutua Madrid Open, Ons Jabeur, defeated Kazakh Yuliya Putinseva 6-3, 6-2 in a duel in which he managed to break the service up to four times. With more complications, Maria Sakkari beat Coco Gauff 7-5, 6-4. The confrontation between the two will not start before 15:45 in the Grand Stand Arena.
