The Barajas Municipal Board has completed the first phase of the expansion works of the Barajas Municipal Sports Center, which has involved the construction of a new skating rink, the covering of several sports courts, as well as improvements in access and lighting, with a budget of 1.7 million euros.
As the Madrid City Council pointed out this Wednesday, the district councilor, Sofía Miranda, explained that the 1,350-square-meter skating rink has been completely covered and stands have been installed for the public. In addition, four tennis courts and another four paddle tennis courts have also been covered, which will facilitate their use regardless of the weather.
The work carried out in this sports facility, located at Avenida de Logroño number 70, has also included the improvement of the lighting systems to achieve greater energy efficiency, the urbanization of the new outdoor areas and the creation of a new access to the sports center with a wider pedestrian area. Miranda advanced that, in a second phase, a futsal court, one for ‘pickleball’, another for paddle tennis and a calisthenics circuit will be built.
The City Council recalls that during this mandate, a budget of more than 6.4 million euros has been allocated to improvements to 15 sports facilities in the Barajas district. Among others, the
remodeling of the IDB Barrio del Aeropuerto, the new petanque court and installation of artificial turf at the IDB Ayerbe, the changing rooms and artificial turf at the IDB El Capricho and the coverage of sports courts at the IDB Soto Hidalgo, Orión Júpiter and Playa from Bolnuevo.
