MADRID, 15 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Milan Prosecutor’s Office has issued an international arrest warrant and has requested the extradition of former Brazilian international Robson de Souza ‘Robinho’, sentenced to nine years in prison in Italy for raping a woman in a nightclub along with five other men in 2013.
The former AC Milan winger, who continues to deny the accusations, appealed the sentence to the Supreme Court of Cassation, the highest court of appeal in the transalpine country, which rejected his appeal in January.
Thus, this Tuesday, the Milan Prosecutor’s Office issued an international arrest warrant and requested his extradition to the Ministry of Justice. From the organization’s headquarters in Rome, the documents will be sent to Brazil, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.
However, the 38-year-old ex-footballer, who also played for Real Madrid, Manchester City and Santos, will probably not have to serve his sentence in Italy, as Brazil’s constitution does not allow its citizens to be extradited. Robinho could only be arrested if he travels abroad, when the international arrest warrant would come into force.
In October 2020, Robinho returned to Santos, the club in his hometown and where he had already played in three other stages (2002-05, 2009-10 and 2014-15), although due to pressure from sponsors and fans. following his conviction, the Brazilian team terminated his contract immediately. Subsequently, he announced his withdrawal.
