The MICFootball (MIC-Mediterranean International Cup) already has more than 300 registered teams from about 30 countries for the next edition, which will be from 1April 2-17, 2022. The tournament, one of the most prestigious grassroots football in the world that takes place in the Costa Brava at Easter, was held for the last time in 2019. “We are more excited and eager than ever to organize a sporting event after the closure due to the pandemic,” he explains Juanjo Rovira, tournament director. The 20th edition will feature footballers from between 12 and 20 years to be divided between 9 categories (from the U12 to the U20).

The tournament already has registered groups of countries such as United States, Japan, Brazil, Canada, Nigeria, Guatemala, Uruguay, Mexico and, from Europe, such as Italy, Holland, France, United Kingdom, Sweden, Romania, Israel and Spain, among others, and the forecast is that they will increase in the coming weeks. “You can see that there is a desire for MIC and a sample is the registration of teams from around the world when there are still five months to play it,” adds Rovira. The MICFootball is pending to specify its final venues, although the forecast is to maintain the format of the previous editions.

The director of MICFootball underlines that “the feelings we have are very positive, we want to meet again with the teams and the players. We will adapt to whatever is necessary and we will guarantee all sanitary measures ”. The 2022 MICFootball will also include, for the eighth year, the MICIntegra tournament, focused on people with intellectual disabilities.

Today’s stars have played MICFootball

The MICFootball It has proven to be a true cradle of footballers in the 19 editions that have been played. A wide range of elite players have played him, such as Leo Messi, Neymar, Ansu Fati, Carvajal, Casemiro, Marcus Rashford, Joao Felix, Mohamed Salah, Pedri, Mason Greenwood, Dani Olmo, Theo Hernandez, Brahim Diaz, Eric Garcia, Gavi, Nico González, Pau Torres, Sergio Reguilón, Pablo Fornals, Piqué, Marcelo and Juan Mata, among others. Juanjo Rovira emphasizes that “for the MIC it is the best to see how in the last Barça-Madrid there were, between the two squads, six boys who were 20 years old at most and who played our tournament (Ansu, Eric, Nico, Pedri, Gavi and Miguel Gutiérrez). We are proud to see how the list is getting longer and it is a clear example that the MIC is a true showcase for future football stars ”.
