“The majority shareholders of Real Sporting de Gijón, SAD and Orlegi Sports have reached an agreement whereby the group of Mexican origin has acquired the majority of the share capital of the historic club. Once the mandatory authorization of the operation has been obtained by the Board Superior de Deportes (CSD), the transfer of the shares has been formalized before a Notary today,” announced Sporting.

Simultaneously, the new members of the Board of Directors were appointed, which will be formed by Alejandro Irarragorri, leader of the group, as president; Alfonso Villalva and Martin Hollaender, as members; and José María Segovia, as non-director secretary.

According to the club’s statement, the new directors thanked the outgoing board members, in the person of its president, Javier Fernández, for their “dedication to the club during these years and for the work carried out.”

With this acquisition, Orlegi, as the new owner of the club, is committed to “developing the maximum potential of Sporting de Gijón as a club and as a youth academy”, contributing to the training of women and men who join the youth football categories, as well as “building community by creating shared value” in the city of Gijón, and in all the places where Orlegi Sports activity takes place.

The new Board of Directors will soon appear before public opinion to explain the project that they will now lead. “We count on everyone’s support so that it will soon bear fruit for the benefit of a historic club such as Real Sporting de Gijón, its fans and the city of Gijón and Asturias in general,” the club’s statement settled.
