MADRID, 3 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish quartet made up of Hugo González, Carles Coll, Mario Molla and Sergio de Celis were left out of the final of the men’s 4x100m medley this Saturday after being disqualified for diving into the pool during the last relay before their teammate touched the wall, while Carlos Garach was also unable to make it into the top eight in the 1500m freestyle despite finishing sixth in his heat with a time of 15:20.84.
The men’s 4x100m medley relay team, which had a chance of making the final, was unable to qualify among the top eight quartets in the event, as they were disqualified after Sergio de Celis dove into the pool to do his freestyle relay before Mario Molla touched the wall. Despite this, the time achieved in the race had placed them in ninth position, also out of the grand final.
Meanwhile, long-distance runner Carlos Garach was also unable to make it into the final of the men’s 1500m freestyle. The Spaniard finished sixth in his series with a time of 15.20.84, a time that placed him twenty-second in the series, far behind the 14.45.59 achieved by the Hungarian David Betlehem, who qualified for the final in eighth place.
This concludes Spain’s participation in the swimming pool at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with a record of two diplomas, both achieved by Hugo González in the 100 and 200 backstroke.
