The mayor of A Coruña criticizes the CSD

The mayor of A Coruña, Inés Rey, has criticized the Higher Sports Council and asked it to “not look the other way” in relation to everything that has surrounded the LaLiga SmartBank match between Deportivo and Fuenlabrada and that Predictably, it will end the Galician club in Second B and the Madrid released from a disciplinary relegation.

Rey, who held a telephone conversation with the president of the CSD this Wednesday, recalled that “there was an adulteration of the competition that harmed Deportivo”, referring to the postponement of his match with Fuenlabrada on the last day of the Second Division, which it was to be played on a unified schedule.

The first councilor has referred to the decision of the Administrative Court of Sports to leave the Spanish Football Federation without powers to sanction Fuenlabrada with the relegation and that with the mediation of the Superior Sports Council, a calendar is approved without the A Coruña team in second.

Rey understands that the CSD is competent to make decisions and demand responsibility for “the very serious health and sports case” that occurred in A Coruña in relation to the Fuenlabrada trip with positive cases of COVID-19 in the workforce.

The mayor explained that she called Lozano “after learning from the media about the relationship between the president of the National Professional Soccer League, Javier Tebas, and the Fuenlabrada soccer team.”

In this call it was important, according to the mayor, to know the position of the CSD “with respect to the proposal to disqualify the president by assuring Tebas himself that he was the person responsible for the trip of the Madrid team to the city.”

The head of the local government assured that Lozano did not advance the result of the meeting this Thursday (5:00 pm) between LaLiga and the Federation, with the intermediation of the CSD to reach an agreement on the calendar of the First and Second Division.

He stated that in his conversation with Lozano he was not offered any compensation for the city to counteract Deportivo's relegation.

“If someone at the CSD understands or thinks he understands that formulating some type of sporting performance in the city will make us shut up and not stop denouncing what we consider unfair, I want to clarify that it is wrong,” he said.

Rey added that he hopes that “no one, not President Irene Lozano, not the Sports Council or any other body, understands that the local government of this city is going to allow its” defense of A Coruña “to be reduced, in no case. their rights because “A Coruña is not for sale”.

In addition, he called for justice for those who have “deliberately” breached the protocols established by the health authorities, creating a risk to public health and society.

“Is professional football above the rest? Who is directing professional football is allowed to skip the protocols? Do they allow him to create a health risk and nothing happens? I don't understand how harsh restrictions are imposed on sectors such as hospitality, culture and other sports and that in this case no responsibilities are required “, he questioned.

Rey considered that the CSD “is not at the height of the circumstances” and advanced that “the City Council of A Coruña will continue fighting to clarify the facts.”

“We believe that there was an adulteration of the competition and as a consequence, the demotion. Deportivo was prevented from playing the last day in the same conditions as the rest of the teams,” he recalled.

Rey announced that he will demand “responsibilities in common justice” and wished “Deportivo succeed in their claims” because, in his opinion, “it is justice.”
