The ‘martial law’ ends with the league in Ukraine

No games have been played since Russia invaded Ukraine in February in what Moscow calls a “special military operation.”

The last round of games was played in December before the league began a three-month winter break. Shakhtar Donetsk led the league table with 47 points from 18 games, two points ahead of Dynamo Kyiv.

“Ukrainian Premier League football clubs supported the proposal to end the 2021-22 season…as the championship cannot be completed due to the extension of the state of martial law in Ukraine,” the UPL said in a statement on Tuesday. Tuesday.

“The ranking as of February 24, 2022 will be the final ranking of the 2021-22 season, with no winners being awarded. The corresponding decision was submitted for approval by the executive committee of the Ukrainian Football Association.”

The top two teams qualify for the Champions League.
