The Madrid Half Marathon 2023 reaches 10,000 registered almost 4 months after it was held

MADRID, 5 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Movistar Madrid Half Marathon has reached the bar of the first 10,000 registered runners almost 4 months after it takes place, on March 26, the organizers announced in a statement on Monday.

The increase in registered women stands out, the highest percentage so far also in the 21 previous editions, reaching practically 23 percent, as well as the increase in foreign runners (13 percent) who will arrive in the capital of Spain.

In the last edition, women represented 20 percent of the total and foreigners did not exceed 12. Likewise, there are already a total of 67 nationalities represented on the starting list. One in four of the Spaniards who have already reserved their numbers come from outside the Community of Madrid, which will also increase the economic impact of the event.

The growth in participation is due, among other things, to the substantial improvement of the route launched in 2021 and which has consolidated the Movistar Madrid Half Marathon as one of the fastest tests over a distance of 21,097 meters in Spain thanks to the great records , both in the female and male categories, achieved by elite athletes.

Parallel to the 21,097-meter test, the 5.8-kilometer ProFuturo charity race will be held, a more affordable distance and open to more runners. This test seeks to make visible the work of ProFuturo, the digital education program promoted by Fundación Telefónica and Fundación la Caixa to reduce the educational gap in the world through quality digital education for children in vulnerable environments in Latin America, the Caribbean , Africa and Asia.

The Movistar Madrid Half Marathon continues to maintain the ‘Road Race Label’ seal of the World Athletics international federation, and was named by the Madrid City Council as an ‘event of general interest for the city’.

The historical records of the test have been broken on the renovated circuit, with records such as those of Ronald Kiprotich, with 59:38 in 2021, and Winfridah Moraa, with 1h07:22, in 2022.
