The Madrid Challenger Series brings CrossFit and weightlifting to the gates of the Royal Palace

MADRID, 26 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Madrid Challenger Series has taken over the vicinity of the Royal Palace of Madrid this Saturday to carry out a weightlifting ‘showmatch’ with 12 of the most outstanding athletes of this discipline in Spain, with Mouna Skandi and Otto Orta taking the victory in this second competition edition.

The competition format for this ‘showmatch’ has been a rapid competition of three attempts of each lift to add the final score. The winners would be those who lifted the most in the Olympic total in sinclair ratio, the famous technique of compensating body weight for weight lifted.

The Sports delegate of the Madrid City Council, Sofía Miranda, praised “the fantastic response” from Madrid residents and visitors to this opportunity to see “great CrossFit athletes in a place as emblematic as the Royal Palace”, and highlighted the commitment of the consistory “for bringing the big events closer to the people of Madrid so that more and more they get hooked on the sport”.

Mouna Skandi has taken the victory after lifting 85 kg in the snatch and 100 kg in two times. The Spanish champion has shown herself to be one of the best versions of her to face the Weightlifting World Cup on December 5. “It has been a privilege to compete here. I have felt very good, this test was to see how I feel in the World Cup. Being able to represent weightlifting is a dream,” she said.

For his part, Otto Orta, lifted a weight of 119 kg in the snatch and 143 kg in two times and won the check for 1,000 euros for Club Sideropolis in Madrid. “The setting is spectacular, I had never competed with so many people. I’ve only been weightlifting for two years, I really value the opportunity to compete and besides winning, it’s a great satisfaction,” he said.

Víctor Casanovas, director of the event, highlighted the intention of the organization to “bring CrossFit and weightlifting closer to the citizens of Madrid”. “We work together with the city council to make it possible,” he said.
