CD Lugo took a point from Gran Canaria with a late goal by Chris Ramos (2-2) against UD Las Palmas, who were once again condemned for a set piece action, after coming back in the first half from an initial goal by the Galicians and settle in after the break with their meager advantage.
The local coach, Xavier García Pimienta, shook the tree and introduced novelties, starting with the goal, with Álvaro Valles, and placing Jesé Rodríguez, on the day of his 29th birthday, on the right wing, from where he had the first great opportunity with a one-on-one that Óscar Whalley took out with his right leg in the 18th minute.
Lugo had barely approached the yellow area, but in a long play, Sebas Moyano, very alone, had time to think and take a low shot to the short post, where it hurts the goalkeepers the most, which beat Valles.
Already with the murmur in the stands of the Gran Canaria stadium, Moyano himself took advantage of a misunderstanding between the goalkeeper and Sergi Cardona to head in from a distance, to an empty goal, but the ball bounced off the crossbar.
From a possible 0-2, and at the worst local moment, it quickly went to a draw, thanks to a great individual maneuver by Rafa Mujica, whose targeted control allowed him to enter the area with an advantage and score with a strong cross shot.
Despite the blow received, Lugo continued to expose the local defensive shortcomings with a strong shot from Fernando Seoane that grazed Valles’ right post.
However, misfortune struck the Galician team very close to the break after a center by Jesé from the right that Diego Alende, in his attempt to anticipate Rafa Mujica’s shot, lodged in his goal.
In the second half, the greatest initiative corresponded to the Lugo players, but they did not have as much clarity as in the first period to generate chances.
Nor did Las Palmas demand much of Whalley, who only had to intervene in the 85th minute to disrupt a one-on-one by Venezuelan Peñaranda.
And it is that the islanders, lacking in confidence, were afraid of losing their slight advantage, which they finally let slip in the 89th minute, again from a set piece, with a poorly defended free kick and two single shots, first by Juanpe Jiménez and then by Chris Ramos, in the small area, to get the ball into the net.
