The ‘Lionesses’ finish eleventh in the World Rugby Seven Series in Sydney

The ‘Leones’ finish fourteenth

MADRID, 29 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish women’s rugby sevens team finished eleventh in the fourth round of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, held in Sydney (Australia), after losing to Canada (27-10) in the semifinals for ninth position and beating Papua Nueva Guinea (29-0) in its last match, while the men’s team ended with a fourteenth place.

In the match against the Canadians, Paula Requena opened the scoring for the ‘Leonas’, who were weighed down by two yellow cards -Claudia Peña in the 4th minute for a dangerous tackle and Ingrid Algar in the 8th minute after a screen-.

After that, those of Pedro de Matías prevailed over Papua New Guinea thanks to five trials. In this way, they say goodbye to the oceanic event in eleventh position and add two more points to settle in ninth place (17 points) in the World Series.

For its part, the Spanish men’s team finished fourteenth in Sydney after losing in the final phase against Kenya (17-12), beating Canada (17-14) and losing to Uruguay (26-5) in the final for the thirteenth position.

Thus, having played five tournaments of the HSBC World Rugby Seven Series, the ‘Leones’ are thirteenth with 18 points, 6 behind the eleventh position, which Uruguay occupies and which ensures that it will remain in the circuit without playing the final play-off.
