The 'Leones7s' and 'Leonas7s' finish tenth and eleventh in Cape Town

MADRID, 10 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish men's rugby sevens team finished in tenth position at the second stop of the World Series, the HSBC SVNS in Cape Town (South Africa), while the women's team finished eleventh.

In their first match on Sunday, the Spanish offered their best version of the season to beat Samoa, who clashed with the order and a great choral version of Paco Hernández and Matías Tudela (17-24); The trials of Edu López, Tobías Sainz-Trápaga, Alejandro Laforga and Juan Ramos gave them the ticket to the final for ninth position.

However, in that last match, Great Britain showed off a solid defense and penalized every error by Spain, who could only score through a great kick behind the defense that Pol Pla landed in the rival goal area ( 7-31).

The women's team, for its part, played a very even match with Brazil, which was tied at 7 at halftime thanks to a great action by Claudia Peña. In the second half, the physicality of the South Americans prevailed (7-21) and deprived the 'Leonas7s' of fighting for ninth position in the tournament.

Thus, Spain closed its participation against the host team, South Africa. Marta Cantabrana, Claudia Pérez and Amalia Argu-do certified the victory of the team of María Ribera and Alberto Socías (21-7).

After two tournaments in the world elite of the Olympic discipline, Spain has three points in the women's category – one point in Dubai and two in Cape Town – and 5 in the men's category – two and three. Spain will return to action, along with the other 11 best teams in the world in each sevens category, on January 26 in Perth (Australia).
