The low intensity of the wind has prevented the dispute of the first day of the first World Cup of the Lanzarote International Regatta 2024, that of iQFOiL – a windsurfing modality that will be Olympic class at the Paris 2024 Games -, the start of which has been postponed to this Tuesday.
The 94 women and 118 men that make up the fleet took to the water after 11:00 a.m. island time. “There were conditions to be able to do slalom-type races, with about seven or eight knots of wind, sometimes nine, but just before the warning signal the wind died, so we couldn't start any race,” said the main officer, Ewa Jodlowska.
The fleet then returned to land and waited for news at the Marina Rubicón facilities. The wind increased somewhat in intensity but without reaching the necessary minimum and finally fell again. After 4:00 p.m., Jodlowska announced the postponement of the day until this Tuesday.
The start of the day has been brought forward to 11:00 a.m. island time. “The report is a little better, so I hope we can do slalom tests, and for the next few days there will be a regatta format, because there will be conditions for it. We will see if the forecasts come true,” said Jodlowska.
The Lanzarote International Regatta is organized by Marina Rubicón and has the collaboration of the Royal Canarian Sailing Federation, as well as the institutional support of the Tourism area of the Lanzarote Cabildo through the sports product European Sports Destination (managed by SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote), Promotur Turismo de Canarias, the Yaiza City Council and the private entities Dinghycoach, Naviera Armas and Cabrera Medina (Cicar).
