The key to the conflict: why did President Díaz Ayuso’s brother get paid?

In the midst of the open crisis between Genoa and the Madrid president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, an unknown yet to be clarified arises, directly related to the brother of the Madrid leader, Tomás, and the 280,000 euros he received, related to a public contract of the Community of Madrid to acquire masks.

The contract dates from April 2020 and has been well known since last November, to the point that the opposition in the Madrid Assembly referred to the fact that its beneficiary is the company Priviet Sportive, owned by Daniel Alcázar, a friend of the Díaz Ayuso family. There is no indication of any illegality in it.

It is also proven that the brother of the Madrid president received the collection of the aforementioned 280,000 euros, derived from a sale that in its entirety amounted to 1.5 million. In fact, the leader of the regional Executive assures that she knew in September 2021 (at the request of the president of the PP, Pablo Casado) the existence of the contract for the acquisition of masks and that she contacted her brother.

A “regulated” payment

The latter admitted his relationship with the Priviet company and the existence of the charge. The disbursement was carried out in a manner “completely regulated by the Treasury”, according to the president, but that does not mean that all the circumstances surrounding it are clear.

It remains to be clarified what the reason for the payment was, specifically if it was a commission linked to an alleged mediation work carried out by Tomás Díaz Ayuso or if it was due to a consideration, possibly of a technical nature, that has no connection with the public purchase. Apparently, the PP demanded that the Madrid president open an investigation into the reasons for the disbursementfearing that a scandal could break out that would affect the party as a whole.

That investigation did not get under way in the Madrid Government and this situation is what generated concern in the offices of Genoa due to the implications that the case could reach.
