“The important thing is that we are alive”

On January 5th, Pedro Trapote and his wife Begoña They were in Miami to enjoy the end of the Holidays with their son Gonzalo and the latter’s girlfriend. The couple wanted to share part of the vacation with their son, who lives in the United States and who has been in charge, among other things, of the inauguration of the latest San Ginés chocolate shop in Texas. The expansion that Trapote is making throughout the world with chocolate shops is impressive. His next appointment is in Madrid’s Calle Bordadores with a new establishment that, in addition, has been decorated with nearly 200 portraits of well-known people and lifelong friends signed by the cartoonist Agustín, the latest discovery of Trapote, who has become a true patron of artists.

But the family’s plans, which were promised to be very lively, were cut short by a tremendous accident they suffered while driving down a street in Miami. A huge 4×4 car driven by a man who was around 50 years old ran a red light and crashed into his, leaving the Trapotes’ vehicle in a total loss: “At my age, when I felt that hit, I thought it was the end,” recalls the businessman, still impressed by the enormous scare they experienced.

Almost miraculously, he was the only one injured with a double fracture in the wrist that required the use of a cast. After suffering the brutal accident, the four were taken to a hospital where they performed all the relevant tests to make sure there were no hidden injuries. They went through two hospital centers and had to request permission to return to Spain once they saw that they could travel: “It has been a horrible task, but the important thing is that we are all fine. Deep down and despite the terrible impact, we can say that We have been lucky to stay alive,” he adds.

The Trapote couple returned to Madrid three days ago and it is now Dr. Piñal who will determine if it is necessary to undergo surgery to finish fixing the doll. More calm at home and sure that they have a specialized expert at hand, they want to forget the bad experience they have experienced and take advantage of each day that passes: “With these things you realize the fragility of life. You have to take advantage of it and enjoy it a lot,” says Trapote without losing his good humor.
