The Iberdrola Supera Awards recognize six new sports projects for women and girls

MADRID, 30 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The third edition of the Iberdrola Supera Awards announced this Wednesday the winners of its six categories, who will receive an economic endowment of 50,000 euros each after being chosen from a total of 600 projects designed to promote the role of women’s sport.

Thus, the ‘Supera Base’ award, for the promotion of grassroots sport among girls up to 16 years of age, went to the Getxo Skating and Roller Hockey Sports Club (Basque Country), with the aim of adapting their
infrastructures to be able to compete, while the ‘Supera Competición’ award, aimed at helping the incorporation of women into the competition, will help the Club Deportivo Pingüinos Rugby de Burgos to ascend to the Division of Honor B and make rugby a sport of reference for all women and girls in the province.

‘Supera Inclusion’, for the insertion of women with special abilities in sports practice, went to the Delikia Sports Club for promoting the practice of athletics in young people with disabilities through training in schools, associations and medical societies
in Galicia; and ‘Supera Social’, to promote the integration of women in society through sport, will strengthen the Algeciras Rowing Club (Andalusia) to the insertion of women who have overcome cancer
of breast by practicing team rowing.

In addition, the ‘Supera Difusión’ award, which recognizes giving visibility to women’s sports, went to the documentary series ‘Conquistadoras’, from the ‘ExtTV’ channel, which tells the stories of athletes, clubs and federations worthy of being known, valued and remembered.

And, finally, ‘Supera Mental Health’, a novelty in this edition and which rewards the care of this vital aspect in people within the sports field, was awarded to the project ‘Train your wings’, by Affit, for the application of a program in the Therapeutic Educational Unit of the Provincial Hospital of Castellón, and for the improvement that adolescents will achieve thanks to the increase in hours of physical activity.

“The company materializes its integral commitment to equality, accompanying girls and women to fulfill their dreams through sport. Just as a building needs the best possible foundations, our future athletes also deserve the best support”, celebrated Ignacio Galán , Chairman of ‘Iberdrola’.

For the manager, these types of events “are the path to future success and give visibility to initiatives that range from the practice of grassroots sports to high competition, including the more social sphere of sport, such as inclusion or care of the mental health of athletes”.

The event, held at the company’s headquarters in Madrid, was attended by the president of the Higher Sports Council, José Manuel Franco; the general secretary of the Spanish Olympic Committee, María Victoria Cabezas; the president of the Spanish Paralympic Committee, Miguel Carballeda; the Councilor Delegate for Sports of the Madrid City Council, Sofía Miranda; representatives of the 32 National Sports Federations sponsored by the company; and some of its ambassadors such as Carolina Marín, Ona Carbonell or Teresa Perales.
