Favorable opinion

The National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) today issued a favorable opinion for the club to continue in Ligue 2to which he was relegated last season for strictly sporting reasons.

The opinion is only advisory and from now on the Executive Committee of the French Football Federation (FFF) will have to rule on the substance of the matter.

This committee validates in the vast majority of cases the opinions of the CNOSF, recalls the French sports press.

The club had presented last Thursday to the CNOSF a new project for the recovery of the club’s finances, by which the previous owners, two American investment funds, renounced 75% of the debt that the entity had with them (of 53 million euros will go to 13.5 million).

In addition, the owner of the club, the Spanish-Luxembourgish businessman Gerard Lopezincreased the share capital by 10 million euros, and a deposit of another 14 million was placed as a guarantee in case the planned transfers of players do not materialize.

€13 million for Mara

Finally, yesterday the agreement was announced for the transfer of the French Under-21 international Sekou Mara al Southampton English for 13 million euros, which alone represents almost the total of those 14 million expected in player sales.

On the 5th, the Appeals Commission of the National Directorate of Control and Management (DNCG) of the FFF validated a previous decision of administrative demotion of the Girondins due to its financial situation, which put the club on the verge of disappearance.

Six times champion of France

Founded in 1945, the Girondins It has won six Leagues, four French Cups and three League Cups, and was a finalist in the 1996 UEFA Cup. Figures such as Zinedine Zidane o Jean Tigana.

The club has had financial problems for years and in 2021, when it was already going through a critical situation, it was bought ‘in extremis’ by Gerard Lopezwho had owned the Lille from 2015 to December 2020.
