Spain conquers the 2024 Spanish International Tournament with a victory against the Balkan team
MADRID, 7 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish men's handball team beat Serbia this Saturday (32-26) on the last day and lifted the champion trophy of the 2024 Spain International Tournament, a success that confirms the great form of Jordi Ribera's team. ahead of the European Championship, which will be held from January 10 to 28 in Germany.
At the Palau d'Esports in Granollers, the 'Hispanos' reacted after a few first minutes of Serbian dominance, a team that deployed its best defensive weapons to slow down the scoring pace of the Spanish, who clung to their wingers Ángel Fernández and Aleix Gómez to try to come back. Little by little, Ribera's men strengthened their lead, three goals at halftime (16-13).
Sergey Hernández replaced Gonzalo Pérez de Vargas after the restart and responded to the coach's confidence with several worthy saves, leaving Serbia dry for six minutes. With more than 20 minutes left in the match, the difference of seven goals on the scoreboard gave the Serbians little hope.
On the other hand, the Balkans, led by Spanish coach Toni Gerona, worked hard but ran into the wall deployed by Sergey Hernández. In the next few hours, the Spanish coach will confirm the names of the 18 players chosen to fly to Germany on January 10.
