The ‘Hispanics’ want to take the second round against Sweden

MADRID, 11 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish men’s handball team will face each other again this Sunday (6:00 p.m./Teledeporte) at the Olivo Arena in Jaén against the Swedish team, in the second consecutive duel between them in the EHF EURO Cup 2024, after the defeat (33 -29) last Wednesday in the Scandinavian country.

Jordi Ribera’s team, who landed on Thursday night in Granada, the city where they concentrated to prepare for this match against Sweden, hopes to end the week with two points. “The fact of playing at home, in front of our fans, will demand the maximum from us,” said the coach, who also spoke of improving certain things compared to Wednesday, “especially in the defensive aspect.” “We have to concede fewer goals if we want to win Jaén,” he added in statements provided by the RFEBM.

The ‘Hispanics’ exercised this Saturday in the gym and on the track at the facilities of the University of Granada, carrying out their last training session in the afternoon. Without news, the national coach will be able to count on all of his players for the match, with the exception of the suspended Miguel Sánchez-Migallón.

Sweden, which continues to lead this EHF EURO Cup 2024 with plenty of victories, arrives on Spanish soil reaffirming itself as one of the clear candidates to win this competition. The team led by Glenn Solberg is in Granada with the loss of Elliot Stenmalm at the last minute, but has the potential of Felix Claar, Eric Johansson or Hampus Wanne, among others.

With the latest precedent, played last Wednesday in Linköping, the tally rises to 61 games between the Hispanics and Sweden, with a slightly favorable balance for the Spanish team: 32 wins, 1 draw and 28 losses. The last time the Scandinavians visited Spain was in Andalusia and to also play an EHF EURO Cup 2020 duel.

Four days ago, the Swedes took some revenge for the defeat in the fight for bronze in their recent World Cup, a precedent that showed pique with the expulsion of Sánchez-Migallón, although last year it was Sweden who beat Spain in the European final.
