The ‘Hispanics’ fall in Sweden with a certain post-World Cup pique

MADRID, 8 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish men’s handball team fell (33-29) against Sweden this Wednesday on the third day of the EHF Euro Cup 2024, just over a month after the ‘Hispano’ bronze in the World Cup over the Nordics, better in this competition they lead.

Jordi Ribera’s men had a thick day in attack and they didn’t work as usual in defense either. The Spanish game had no rhythm, with the robbery and the counter, with a second half that was clear from Sweden. The match at the Saab Arena in Linköping ended hotly, with the expulsion of Miguel Sánchez-Migallón.

After losing the world bronze in Stockholm, Sweden took the reins in the first chapter of a clash that will have its return on Sunday in Jaén. The beginning left few goals, with a 2-2 after eight minutes, by Imanol Garciandia for those of Ribera. The local goal Tobias Thulin made the Spanish offensive problem bigger.

However, Sergey Hernández also fulfilled the goal of the ‘Hispanics’, with 10 stops in the first half that was completed with that equality (13-12). The entry of Agustín Casado and the Dujshebaev brothers improved the performance of the world bronze, but in the restart Spain lost the face-to-face match without reaction (19-15).

Ribera harangued his team but the income continued to favor the locals with Hampus Wanne and Felix Claar. The game heated up 10 minutes from the end, with a clash between Eric Johansson and Sánchez-Migallón that led the Spaniard to take the law into his own hands, sent off with a red card. The game gained intensity at times, but Sweden kept the lead in their three out of three in the Euro Cup.
