The heartbreaking story of an athlete who has coronavirus: “It is a brutal body ache”

The coronavirus pandemic does not stop and after exploding in Chinese territory, Europe is now the region in a critical situation. Germanywhat is he fifth most affected country, only surpassed by China, Italy, Iran and Spain, seeks the best measures to control the virus, which so far has affected more than 10,000 people (26 died).

Among those affected in Teutonic territory is the Spanish center of Rhein-Neckar Löwen Gideon Guardiola. The gold medalist in the 2013 World Cup and current two-time champion of Europe with the Hispanics, received confirmation in the last hours. Within the German squad, their Danish teammates Mads Mensah Larsen and German Jannik Kohlbacher also tested positive for COVID-19.

The athlete, although he tried to bring calm to his fans, told details of how he suffered the first days. "I'm fine, better than the weekend, when I had some very bad symptoms and I was physically dusty, with a headache, a high fever, chills, a brutal body ache, incredible discomfort, in short, ”explained the athlete from his home in Sankt Leon.

The last training session of the team was last Thursday and on Saturday the Spaniard began to feel bad. After communicating it to the campus doctor, Guardiola headed to a hospital to do the corresponding studies.

"My whole family has been quarantined at home since Saturday"said Gideon, who lives in Germany with his wife Paula and their 5 and 3 year old children. "They are fine, without symptoms, but with my wife we assume that we are all infected. My wife has allergy sneezes, but you don't cough dry like I do. I am now isolated in my room with more protection: with gloves and a mask. I go out even less than before, because they walk around the rest of the house. We have to take the four of us the temperature in the morning and in the afternoon, and send it to the center. In five days, health personnel will come home to see how we are doing, ”explained the former City of Logroño and Portland San Antonio.

Given the lack of certainty about the state of health of the rest of his family nucleus, the Spaniard revealed how they are taking care of these hours at home: “I have a toilet for myself. My wife continually cleans the door handles, changes the towels for me. Anyway, we are doing everything that the protocol tells us ”.

It is worth noting that the Rhein-Neckar campus is vaccinated against the flu, so at first they thought that the symptoms were a side effect and not coronavirus. "You feel like it's the flu, but the other day it was very curious because I had the feeling that I was in a 40º fever and I was dying, with hot red eyes, but I did not have a high fever. At the most I have had 38 ° ”, concluded Guardiola.
