The harsh reality of Loquillo: he talks about the “serious illness” he has in his neck and his wife’s cancer

loquillo, at 62, is in full musical promotion. His last record will of goodhas a very significant song: diary of a trucewhich he wrote in one of the most convulsive moments of his life, when he was diagnosed with “a serious illness in the neck”.

About a year ago, after releasing the album, he already talked about the multinodular goiter that he was diagnosed with in March 2021 after noticing a lump in his neck. It is a thyroid disorder in which the entire gland grows irregularly due to an abnormal stimulus.

The singer, who is starting his tour this week in Spain until September, has spoken about it on Cadena Ser and has revealed that he decided not to undergo surgery: “This song was made at a time when I was diagnosed with a serious neck disease They gave me the option to have surgery and I said no. I told my composer, this lasts as long as it lasts.”

After his shocking confession, he spoke about his current state of health: “At the moment I’m fine with the neck, but I haven’t made plans in advance for a few years. I enjoy life, I try to make others happy and above all I love music because it is what makes me live and be alive. I hope that everything goes in the right direction and this is resolved”.

It was then that he also spoke about his partner, the writer Susana Koska, five years his junior: “I think one has to live this with a lot of dignity and I have an example at home: a person who has spent 12 years fighting against cancer”. She is undoubtedly his example to follow: “I have never hidden because if I have to look for an example of attitude, courage, of facing the elements, I have it in my house and that gives me a lot of courage”.

Loquillo, married for around three decades to Susana Koska and father of a son (Bruno), is a living history of music in Spain. Born in Barcelona as José María Sanz Beltrán, he conquered the stages accompanied by his ‘Trogloditas’ until 2007, when he was just ‘Loquillo’. Rocker and poet, he has also played a supporting role on the big screen (the good news) and participated in the work of director Mario Camus (he was Efrén Castells in the film The city of prodigies). In addition, he has written two novels, the bomb boy y Barcelona City.
