MADRID, 14 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish SailGP team made a triumphant debut this Saturday on its return to Cádiz (Spain), during the fifth Grand Prix of this international competition between F50 catamarans, winning the first race of the day thanks to an impeccable start and then achieving a sixth and a third position.

The ‘Gallos’, under the leadership of Diego Botín, competed in a Paseo Santa Bárbara full of fellow fans. From the beginning, the Spanish team imposed its law at various times and finished in third place; He has many options to compete in Sunday’s grand final, although there are still two races left and anything can happen in them.

Thus, the Spain SailGP Team competes with the homework done after the previous Grand Prix in Taranto (Italy) and the difficulties they had with the starts. With a great start in the first Cádiz race, the boat ‘Victoria’ quickly took the lead, displaying a superiority that made it easy for it to finish as the leader at the finish line.

Diego Botín and Florian Trittel, together with Joel Rodríguez, Nicole van der Velden, Joan Cardona and Bernardo Freitas, achieved another good start in the second race and placed themselves at the top of the classification. However, the ‘Roosters’ were forced to return position to the Canadian team after being penalized in gate 4. In the final meters, the success of their strategy allowed the Spanish team to recover sixth place.

Finally, in the race that closed the day, the Spanish once again demonstrated the changes implemented this season and took the lead along with Australia and Denmark. Despite being two of the most outstanding catamarans in the fleet, the Spain SailGP Team stood up to them, finishing in third place.

The coach of the Spanish team, the Italian Simone Salvà, was happy. “Without a doubt it is a very positive day, in which we are very satisfied with our improvement in the starts. Today it has been shown that it is very important to cross the first gate in a good position, it is essential to have a chance of entering the final on Sunday “he declared.

The ROCKWOOL Denmark team exhibited its consistency and closed the day on Saturday in second place, tied with Spain. To the surprise of many spectators, the Emirates GBR did not find its place in any of the events and finished the day in last place, tied with a Germany that continues to learn during its first season in SailGP.
