The French Football Federation (FFF) confirmed this Monday that “it will review as soon as possible” its agreement with the players of the national team in relation to their image rights, a point of conflict mainly with striker Kylian Mbappé, who had turned to deny in a publicity session with the rest of the internationals.
The Paris Saint-Germain player had been in a disagreement with the FFF since last March when he refused to appear at a photo shoot organized for the current world champion. The Parisian wants to have greater control of his image to avoid being associated with certain brands, but the president of the FFF, Noel Le Graet, and the footballer’s entourage could not reach a compromise when they met in June.
Le Graet told ‘L’Equipe’ that there was not enough time to make the requested changes before the World Cup; which provoked the response of Mbappé, who would not attend a photo session scheduled for this Tuesday after the ‘bleus’ concentrated to prepare the Nations League matches against Austria and Denmark. However, after a subsequent meeting, there was a change in the federal entity.
“After conclusive discussions in the presence of the executives of the French team, the president, the coach and a marketing manager, the French Football Federation undertakes to review, as soon as possible, the agreement inherent to the image rights that unites their players in the national team,” the FFF said in a statement.
The body said it was “delighted to work on the general lines of a new agreement, which will allow it to guarantee its interests, taking into account the concerns and legitimate convictions expressed unanimously by its players.”
