The four of Bayern that destroyed Brazil and Barça

July 8, 2014 and August 14, 2020, are two marked dates in which two of the great hecatombs and humiliations that are remembered in the world of football occurred. On the one hand, the scandalous 1-7 that Germany endorsed Brazil in the semifinals of their World Cup. And, on the other, the more than recent 2-8 from Bayern Munich to Barcelona in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

However, the curious thing about these two great sporting events is that there are four figures who were present at both. Moreover, they were directly participants in the victories: Thomas muller, Manuel Neuer, Jerome boateng and Hans-Dieter Flick. Which, in the end, ended up proclaiming themselves champions of the World and, we will see, if also of Europe.

“Our superiority was greater than that of 7-1 against Brazil”, he dared to assure after yesterday's victory a Müller who saw the door in both games. What's more, he was in charge of opening the can of the goals against Brazil and Barcelona. In Mineirao he did it at eleven minutes. On the other hand, in Lisbon it was only at three, an appointment in which he repeated with a second goal, that of 1-4 exactly.

Two of the members of the German and Bayern defense navy were also present: Neuer and Boateng. Who, despite the words of his partner, did give the sensation of “suffering” a little more last night during the first 20 minutes than in the global count of the 90 against La Canarinha, which already went with a 0-5 down at halftime (against 1-4 at Barça).

And finally, the striking case that may be overlooked is none other than Flick. And is that the current Bayern Munich coach at the time was Joachim Löw's assistant in Die Mannschaft . It was from the arrival of the current German coach, in 2006, until, precisely, lifting the World Cup in Brazil. Since then he held a position in the German Federation, until the opportunity came to replace Niko Kovac. In his first season (since November), he has won the Bundesliga, DFB Pokal and still has a chance of winning the Champions League. A stone's throw away a triplet that would be more than historical.
