Team Marketing, Revelent Sports Group, Infront Sports e IMG They want to get the rights to the top European competitions and only one of these will get the cycle 2024-2027, with an option to extend it from 2027-2030. The auction includes media and sponsorship rights to the Champions League and Europa League, the two top men’s European competitions. They are expected to raise more than $30 million in both cycles.
The 2024-2025 season will be an important test for UEFA, as the Champions League will renew its format from 2024, where 36 teams will participate instead of 34. The teams will play ten group stage matches instead of the six current.
Team Marketing is the company with more than 25 years of experience as a rights holder. Infront, IMG and Sports also have long histories in soccer rights. Both the companies and UEFA have refused to comment on the matter. The deal is administered by a joint venture between UEFA and the European Club Association (ECA) called UEFA Club Competitions SA.
Europe’s biggest clubs have besieged UEFA demanding higher payments, one of the reasons the Superliga, commanded by the presidents of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus, to distribute larger payments to the best European clubs.
This tender would depend on whether the finalists are willing to offer a guaranteed minimum income, so that UEFA would have the guarantee of acquiring a large initial sum that would be distributed to the clubs immediately. In addition, they are looking for a way to add the Europa Conference League, the third European competition, to the rights.
