“The first World Cup in the Arab world is a true celebration of humanity”

In his speech at the Qatar Economic Forum (QEF), Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, He reaffirmed the country’s commitment to organizing a World Cup open to all and serving as a bridge between cultures.

In an interview with Simone Foxman, Middle East correspondent for Bloomberg Television, Al Thawadi said: “The first World Cup in the Arab world and the Middle East offers us a unique opportunity to celebrate football, and for fans to meet people from different walks of life in a true celebration of humanity.”

Al Thawadi He went on to talk about how the tournament has had a transformative impact on the country: “The last ten years have shown our ingenuity, our resilience, our adherence to our values, along with a commitment to progress and recognition of our role in the world community,” he said.

Since being awarded the rights to host the FIFA World Cup, Qatar It has carried out important infrastructure projects, such as a modern metro system with 37 stops, a modern railway network, and the implementation of numerous labor reforms.

Al Thawadi said, “Our commitment to the human rights of our workers over the past 12 years has been unwavering. With the labor reforms we have done, we have set the standard in this field for the region. The pundits have recognized that, and I’m glad to see the World Cup legacy being fulfilled before the tournament begins.”

For its part, Nasser Al Khater, General Manager of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 LLC, he highlighted how the stadiums built for the tournament will continue to serve the country long after the final whistle, making them a sustainable investment in the country’s future.

“One of the key goals we had in 2010, when we won the rights to host the world Cup, was to design the legacy of the stadium before designing the stadium itself. This was done based on the location of the stadium and based on what the needs of the immediate community were.”

Al Khater He went on to explain the extensive consultation process each stage went through, citing the studio Al Janoub, where the community highlighted the need for more green spaces and leisure activities, all of which have been incorporated into the stadium grounds.

“Many of the country’s soccer clubs will move their facilities to the stadiums of the World Cup once the tournament is over, which will allow us to reuse the neighborhoods where its old facilities are currently located,” he added.

The World Cup 2022 will start on November 21, 2022 and will end 28 days later, on December 18, on the National Day of Qatar.
