The Final Series causes six changes of leader in the Copa del Rey de sailing

Felipe VI’s Aifos ranks eighth in the BMW ORC 1 class

MADRID, 4 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The first of the three days that make up the Copa del Rey MAPFRE Sailing Final Series has left up to six changes of leader in the nine classes of the 40th edition, which is held in the waters of Palma de Mallorca until this Saturday.

Only HM Hospitales in BMW ORC 1, Koyré-Spirit of Nerina in ClubSwan 42 and Farstar in ClubSwan 36 managed to defend the leaders won in the Previous Series, on a day in which Embat returned faithful to its appointment in the Bay of Palma, where King Felipe VI competed at the controls of the Aifos 500, which occupies eighth place in ORC 1.

In this category, HM Hospitales was once again the best in the fleet and consolidated its position at the top of the table. Carles Rodríguez’s powerful DK46 recovered from an off-line in the first round and achieved a hard-fought victory. In the second, he only fell to the TP52 Red Bandit. Luis Martínez Doreste’s Estrella Damm retains its options, lurking three points behind the leader. The Aifos 500 of the Spanish Navy, skippered by Felipe VI, occupies the eighth position.

For its part, in BMW ORC 2, the Teatro Soho Caixabank began the day maintaining its unbeaten record, but fell in the second after failing to recover from a bad start, scoring a fifth that forced it to give up the lead for the first time in the week. . The Estonian Katarina II surpasses him in the provisional, who with two seconds is the new leader of the class, one point ahead of the boat owned by Javier Banderas.

In BMW ORC 3 it was Federico Linares’ Brujo who overcame the undisputed dominator of the Previous Series, Enzo de Blasio’s Scugnizza. The boat from Cadiz, which came out second, returned as the leader after scoring a fourth and a first. He leads his Italian rival by the minimum; while in BMW ORC 4 only Giampiero Gianetti’s Black Octopus was spared adding two separate NSC (equivalent to not completing the course) in the two disputed races.

In the first, no participant completed the course and all received eight points in their lockers; in the second, Giampiero Gianetti’s Dufour 34 was the only one to interpret the change of course announced by the Regatta Committee, and is the new leader.

The rest of the leaders of the 40th Copa del Rey MAPFRE are: the Germans from OneGroup in ClubSwan 50, the Italians from Koyré-Spirit of Nerina (ITA) in ClubSwan 42 and Farstar in ClubSwan 36; as well as the Spanish Dorsia Covirán in Mallorca Sotheby’s Women’s Cup and Alcaidesa Marina in Herbalife J70.
