The final of the Queen’s Cup was “green and inclusive”

MADRID, 20 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The final of the HM Queen Iberdrola Cup played by FC Barcelona and Real Sociedad (8-0) this Saturday in La Romareda was “green and inclusive” thanks to the initiatives promoted by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to promote renewable energies and the presence of refugees from the federation’s program for inclusion through football.

The match was “sustainable green” due to the actions implemented by the RFEF to generate the lowest environmental impact of the event, measure the carbon footprint and offset it by planting trees in the ‘Zaragozanos Forest’, as explained by the federation itself in a statement.

In collaboration with Iberdrola, the electricity company that sponsors the competition and the women’s team, sustainability volunteers worked during the meeting, whose energy came 100% from renewable sources to “promote sustainable behaviors.” In addition, they distributed bags themed on the occasion of the crash, in order to encourage recycling.

This campaign was also developed in the vicinity of the stadium, which could be accessed by sustainable transportation such as tram, bicycles, buses or electric motorcycles. These mobility services had special prices thanks to the agreement reached with the Zaragoza City Council.

Both the local council and the finalist clubs supported the federation in these initiatives that aim to “advance the sustainability of major events.” Likewise, the federal entity points out that “the tarps and materials that were used in the final will be converted into second-use products, through organizations and insertion companies that employ vulnerable people.”

In addition to these activities to promote a sustainable environment, the match also had the participation of refugees who make up the RFEF inclusion program through football. Some of them also form the Spanish refugee team, a UEFA initiative, supported by UNHCR and which will take the Spanish team to Nyon on October 10 in a European tournament.
