The fight for the iQFOiL world title starts this Monday in Lanzarote

MADRID, 28 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Olympic Windsurfing World Championship starts this Monday with the first tests, with more than 200 competitors, from 43 countries, until Saturday February 3 in Marina Rubicón (Lanzarote).

After three days of registration confirmation, material checks and an official training test carried out this Sunday, the fight for the iQFOiL world title, the Olympic windsurfing class, begins this Monday in Canary waters.

Six intense days of competition in which the regattas may be Race Course, Slalom or Marathon format. The championship will be made up of two phases: once the qualifying is over, the competitors will begin sailing divided into gold and silver fleets.

Only the first ten will access the grand finale on Saturday, with the quarterfinals, semifinals and a Grand Final with only three participants in which the first to cross the finish line wins, so the title will always be open . In addition, the World Cup will put at stake a country place for Paris 2024 in each category in the case of European nations.

Among the 212 participants confirmed after the final registration there are 13 Spaniards, among which the Mallorcan Nacho Baltasar stands out, who will be in iQFOiL at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, along with Fernando Lamadrid, Bernat Tomàs, Sandro Portune, Guillem Segú, Alex Martí and Jorge Aranzueque.

Likewise, the Andalusian Pilar Lamadrid will be one of the favorites as number 2 in the world ranking, for whom this championship is an “observation regatta” with a view to going to Paris, just like for the rest of the Spanish windsurfers: Nicole Van Der Velden, Andrea Torres, Bárbara Winau, Enrichetta Bettini and Julia Gómez.
