The ‘fever’ is triggered to open the large stadiums to women’s football

The ‘fever’ of the big stadiums to open their doors to women’s football has skyrocketed this March. If they had already been fully booked in mythical stadiums such as San Mamés, the Wanda -also before in the Vicente Calderón-, the Romareda or San Mamés, among many others, in these coming days three proper names will be added that highlight the growing demand from the fans to see their women’s teams in action.

Without going any further, this weekend Sevilla CF has announced that it will open the doors of the Sánchez Pizjuán for the derby against Real Betis in the League match. It will be the first time that this Seville stadium hosts a Sevilla women’s game, although it did host the duel in 2005 in which Hispalis won 8-0 against FC Barcelona. It will be this Sunday, March 5 at 5:00 p.m. and the initiative is part of the commemorative events for World Women’s Day. The same derby was already played at the Benito Villamarín, on April 13, 2019.

On the other hand, on March 13, also in a League match, Ganadilla Tenerife will play its match against Sevilla at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López, another high-level venue that opens for the fourth time to its women’s team, the great revelation of the season: “Playing in the stadium of your soul team is going to be wonderful. It is going to be a very nice game for people to go and enjoy and continue to get hooked as they are doing,” said the star of the Tenerife team, Maria José .

The expectation is being maximum in the duel that will face Barça against Real Madrid in the Camp Nou of the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals, on March 30 at 6:45 p.m. The club already hung up the ‘no tickets’ sign weeks ago. The response from the fans was forceful, exhausting all the availability in a few hours, two and a half months before the duel.

The trend has only gone up. It should be remembered that the Vallecas del Rayo Stadium, the Carlos Belmonte de Albacete, Mestalla, Cornellà, Benito Villamarín, San Mamés, Wanda Metropolitano, La Romareda, Anoeta, Riazor, Ciutat de València or Benito Villamarín have already surrendered to women’s football with very encouraging attendance records.

The same trend in Europe

In Europe the same line is followed. In fact, the Champions League quarter-final matches in March-April will be held in luxury stadiums. The Emirates Stadium will host the duel between Arsenal against Wolfsburg, as well as the Volkswagen Arena with the return of this duel, while the Allianz Arena for Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain and the Parc des Princes for the return .
