MADRID, 23 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish Federation of Sports for People with Physical Disabilities (FEDDF) announced this Monday the creation of its own 3×3 section within the sports structure of the ‘BSR Spain’ project to continue promoting wheelchair basketball with a new modality.
According to the FEDDF, “in its determined commitment to adapt to the changes that are being implemented in society”, this new project also involves the creation of the Spanish men’s and women’s teams, which will be directed by Adrián Yáñez, Bidaideak coach. Bilbao and former national women’s coach, and Jordi Sánchez, assistant coach of UNES FC Barcelona, respectively.
The coordinator of the 3×3 project will be Marcos del Olmo, who during 2023 has carried out, in various cities, the management of wheelchair basketball exhibitions within the Plaza 3×3 CaixaBank circuit.
“We are very proud to create the first Spanish 3×3 team, one more step within the project, and we are excited to see that we continue to take firm steps towards a very promising future. 3×3 basketball is one more tool within the structure of BSR Spain that will make us grow sportingly and that we are very sure will give us a lot of joy. Our great challenge is to be a world reference within this modality,” said Marcos del Olmo.
The FEDDF warned that in addition to growing wheelchair basketball, another of the objectives of the creation of this 3×3 section “is to promote inclusion and equal opportunities in sport, considering that this format is ideal for minor categories and training”.
