The familiar and personal face of Kamala Harris, the favorite to replace Biden

It was not yet eight o’clock in the evening, peninsular time, when Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race and endorsed Kamala Harris as his successor: “I think it will be the best for my country.“said the most powerful man on the planet. From that moment on, all eyes turn to Kamala Harriscurrent Vice President of the United States and one of the favorites to succeed Biden in the elections.

Harris studied political science and economics at Howard University. She later earned her law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Her professional career began in the public sector, working as a deputy district attorney in Alameda County, California. In 2004, she was elected District Attorney of San Francisco. In 2010, she became the Attorney General of California, a position she served in until 2017.

In 2020, Kamala Harris was selected as Joe Biden’s running mate in the presidential election. Her nomination marked a milestone as the first African American and South Asian woman to be chosen as a vice presidential candidate for a major political party. In 2021, Joe Biden won the election and Harris assumed the role of Vice President.

Kamala is deeply in love with her husband, the lawyer Douglas Emhoff (54) The two met on a blind date arranged by a friend and just a year later, in March 2014, Emhoff proposed to her in the politician’s California apartment. Months later, on August 22, they said ‘I do’ in Santa Barbara.

Unlike Kamala, who had never been married and had no children, Emhoff had been divorced six years earlier from his first wife, the film producer Kerstin Emhoffwith whom she has two children in common: Cole y EllaThe Democrat has a good relationship with her husband’s children, as they call her ‘Momala’ (a mix between ‘mom’ and Kamala). “Family is everything to me and I can’t wait for America to meet my husband Doug and our incredible children Cole and Ella,” the vice president said.

Donald Trump’s reaction to Biden’s withdrawal

Minutes after Joe Biden announced his withdrawal as a candidate for the US presidential elections, Donald Trump has reacted to his resignation. The Republican leader has described Biden as “the worst president in the history of our country“, according to CNN.

Melania’s husband has also indicated that he believes it will be easier to beat Vice President Kamala Harris in the election than Biden himself.
