The faith of Valencia to seek the draw and then the victory was rewarded this Friday at Mestalla in the discount when Gonçalo Guedes came out of his punishment to score the goal that culminated a comeback and sank a Villarreal that has already eight days without winning in the League.
The match started with both teams looking for the opposite goal. In his strange first return to what was his home, Dani Parejo warned after two minutes but the locals also dared to launch into the opposite area with Kang In Lee at the controls.
When Valencia was better, the omnipresent Uros Racic fell to the ground in shock and had to withdraw from the pitch. Although he returned later, the locals lost their place and Paco Alcácer was able to overtake them and it was not taken out by Jasper Cillessen, who went wrong, but by a great José Luis Gayà.
But the worst was yet to come for them. Gerard Moreno finished off a cross from the area and did it on the outstretched arm of the Valencian captain. Nobody protested but the VAR warned Estrada Fernández and after thinking it over, he signaled a penalty and the Catalan striker scored the first goal a few minutes before the break.
Unlike other matches, Valencia did not sink from the backhand although Cillessen avoided the sentence before the end of the first half and returned to the pitch ready to besiege Asenjo. He tried in every way and even Daniel Wass crashed a header off the crossbar. Of course, Moreno was also able to score and the Dutch goalkeeper again avoided it.
Finally, the Maxi Gómez fight paid off when Moi Gomes knocked him down almost leaving the area. Prior notice from the VAR, the second penalty came, this time the work of Carlos Soler. The draw seemed the most fair given that Valencia also lost by suspension for the next match to Gayà, Soler, Racic and Maxi.
But Valencia was not satisfied with that point and looked for the second immediately. He arrived in the discount after a good driving by Christian Oliva, one of the winter signings and who had barely played, which culminated with a whiplash from the highly questioned Guedes, who had entered the field of play halfway through the second half. The Portuguese commanded to shut up, it is not known who but who he left speechless is Villarreal.
