The Euroleague announces its new salary control system and ‘Fair Play’ financial

MADRID 5 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Euroleague officially announced on Wednesday the implementation of competitive balance standards (CBS, according to acronym in English), a new regulation, advanced in September, which extends the scope of the current Financial Stability Regulation and ‘Fair Play’ (FSFPR) of the organization and that aims to balance the templates through a new salary control.

The maximum continental basketball competition published a 50 -page dosier with these new measures presented five months ago in the Assembly of Shareholders of the Commercial Euroleague Assets (ECA).

“The new measures, which will enter into force in the 2025-26 season, aim to strengthen financial sustainability, promote competitive balance, prevent inappropriate practices and increase transparency between participating clubs, while aligning the objectives of all interested parties,” said Euroleague in a statement.

“The CBS guarantees equal remuneration levels for all clubs based on collective income. This framework establishes a structured remuneration system to maintain financial balance, while harmonizing the impact of the different tax models that coexist in the league assessing the indicators on net amounts,” he adds.

The new financial control system will have a progressive implementation that will culminate in the 2027-28 season. The objectives are several, such as aligning the objectives of the clubs through the reference of the minimum and maximum remuneration levels to the collective income generated by the clubs, reinforcing the commercial association between players and clubs.

Also promote sustainability and competitive balance establishing spending ranges for players that are equal for all competition teams based on collective income generated by clubs.

This new system tries to prevent “inappropriate practices” through the control of compliance by each club of the pre -established levels before the registration of the players every season, as well as increase transparency between the participating teams.

The new competitive equilibrium standards have developed throughout the last two seasons after a collaboration process between a club committee, and have been debated and accepted by the Association of Euroliga players (Elpa).

The CBS represents the commitment of the Euroleague of “promoting a financially sustainable and competitive environment, guaranteeing long -term growth and transparency for all interested parties.” “The CBS framework marks a fundamental step to achieve these objectives, laying the foundations for a more stable and equitable future in European basketball,” he adds.

Three common remuneration levels will be introduced for all teams-base, high and low-that will be calculated using the defined average income of the clubs (LCDR: party day, commercial and others) generated during a two-seasons period. These levels will mark the minimum and maximum expenditure of each club in remuneration, while allowing exceptions for certain players with the aim of attracting, developing and retaining the best talents.

It is the first time that a mandatory minimum expense is introduced in the remuneration of the players within the FSFPR, which guarantees that a net minimal of 32% of all collective income will be allocated to the Euroleague players, thus reinforcing the association with the players, whose contribution to income growth will affect directly in their levels of remuneration.

In addition, competitive balance compensation ‘CBC’ (in English) will be key in this new system, since any club that spends above the basic and/or high levels of established remuneration must compensate for all other clubs that are maintained within the established limits.
