The Ethiopians Ashenafi and Negasa dominate a Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon with records in all their distances

Dani Mateo and Adrián Guirado win the 22K and 12K tests

The Ethiopians Ademke Ashenafi and Hailu Negasa have won the Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon, a test that has celebrated its fifth anniversary and that has had records in all its distances, with the Spaniards Dani Mateo and Adrián Guirado prevailing in the 22 and 12 kilometers, respectively.

In the queen distance, the Ethiopian Ademke Ashenafi broke the test record with a time of 2:33:37, surpassing Belainesh Yami’s mark (2:34:30) from the 2019 edition; the also Ethiopian Bashanke Bilo was second and the Spanish ‘runner’ Silvia Sarrión, third. The Ethiopian Hailu Negasa was proclaimed champion in the men’s marathon ahead of his compatriot Muleta Deyisa and the Spanish Alberto Candel.

In 22K, the Spanish Olympian Dani Mateo dominated with a time of 1:11:10, which is the best mark of the Ibiza event, and the local Adrián Guirado achieved the best mark of the 12K distance with a mark of 39: 41.

In its fifth edition, the Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon has brought together thousands of runners in an event that has traveled through the most emblematic places on the Pitiusa island and has ended on the promenade of the bay of Santa Eulària des Riu.

The Minister of Sports and Finance, Salvador Llosa, kicked off the marathon in the port of Ibiza. Similarly, in the town of Santa Gertrudis, the new 22K distance was launched, with Antonio Marí, sports councilor of the Santa Eulària des Riu City Council, in charge of giving the starting signal to nearly a thousand runners. Finally, the 12K distance had the most crowded start in the port of Santa Eulària des Riu after the shot fired by Carmen Ferrer, mayor of the town of Santa Eulària des Riu.
