The EHF dismisses the Swedish Handball Federation's protest over the French goal that forced extra time

MADRID, 27 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Disciplinary Commission of the European Handball Federation (EHF) has rejected the claim of the Swedish Handball Federation for the goal by French left back Elohim Prandi that forced extra time in the semifinals of the European Men's Handball Championship (34-30) .

“The protest was filed over the non-use of video refereeing to verify France's last free-throw in the 60th minute of the match. After a careful evaluation of the situation, the Commission has determined that it is at the discretion of the EHF referees and It is not an obligation to use video arbitration technology,” he said in a statement.

France reached the continental final 10 years later, with a goal from Elohim Prandi with time running out to force extra time. The French side, in a last distant free kick and with the clock at 60:00, equalized (27-27), which gave rise to about 10 extra minutes where the French sealed their victory. Prandi's goal was protested by the Swedes, since he seemed to not comply with the regulation of a free hit, moving both feet off the ground.

“Video refereeing is only used when the referees have serious doubts about making the correct decision or when they cannot visualize the situation correctly. It is solely the decision of the referees or delegates to use it. The decision not to use it falls within the scope of the Legal Regulations of the EHF, as well as the European, and will be considered a factual decision and, therefore, final, not being subject to any protest. Therefore, the protest is declared inadmissible,” indicated the EHF, which added that an appeal may be made. appeal until 8:00 p.m. this Saturday.

This Sunday, France and Denmark will meet in the final of the European Championship in Germany. The Danes beat the host (26-29) in the semifinals on Friday.
