The Association of European Clubs (ECA) has analyzed the “seismic shock” caused by the coronavirus and has estimated at 4,000 million euros the losses that the pandemic will cause due to all the matches and competitions that have been affected. According to the report issued this Tuesday by the ECA, the clubs registered in the 55 European federations are going to stop receiving some 1,600 million euros during this season, to which another 2,400 million will be added in the next academic year. Ten of those leagues, including the five largest (Spain, England, Italy, Germany, and France) account for a total of 3.6 billion of those losses, of which 1.5 billion come from unsold tickets this season and the next, when It is also estimated that there will be to continue playing behind closed doors for a still indefinite time.
“The financial impact of Covid-19 on European clubs, as far as we can see now, is already a seismic shock, even with most competitions already in operation. Now is the time to build a common and widespread understanding among all interested and working together in recovery, taking this opportunity to build greater sustainability, “asked ECA CEO Charlie Marshall.
