The draw for intercontinental play-offs, on November 26

The draw for the qualifying intercontinental play-offs for the Qatar 2022 World Cup will be held next Friday, November 26 in Zurich, according to FIFA in a statement today.

The highest world football organization will take advantage of the fact that starting at 17.00 (16.00 GMT) the draw for the pairings of the European qualifiers will take place to then define the clashes in which the representatives of Asia (AFC), Concacaf, Conmebol and Oceania (OFC) will define the last two tickets for the final phase.

These intercontinental qualifiers, originally scheduled for March 2022, will be played in a single match on June 13 and 14, 2022 due to the problems that the Covid-19 pandemic has generated in the qualifying phase calendar.

That the play-offs are played in a single match on a neutral ground to be designated by FIFA is the great novelty compared to previous editions of the World Cup, when they were played in a double-game tie.

Thus, in the qualifiers four years ago, Australia and Peru were the teams that managed to qualify for Russia 2018 with their triumphs against Honduras and New Zealand, respectively.

Which teams will participate in the repechage

For the Concacaf, the fourth classified of the final league will participate in this intercontinental play-off; for Conmebol the fifth; for the Asian Confederation, the winner of the match played by the third classified of each group in the third round; and for the oceanic the winner of the qualifying phase.

Due to UEFA, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, France, Croatia, Spain, Serbia, England, Switzerland and the Netherlands already have a place in the World Cup; and Portugal, Scotland, Italy, Russia, Sweden, Wales, Turkey, Poland, North Macedonia, Ukraine, Austria and the Czech Republic will play the repechage, of which three will qualify for the World Cup.

Brazil and Argentina have also secured their passes, for Conmebol, and Qatar as the host team for Asia.
